In my continuing struggle to grasp the "Awful German Language" (this is a great piece by Mark Twain about how "Awful" German is. If you have the patience to read it you may have the patience to learn the language) I decided not too long ago to take pictures of German words I come across. I figured that I would look at something, try to figure it out, and when I got my film back days later I would research the word and its origins until I fully and truly understood its meaning. Then I would use it in a sentence. And now I would like to share what I've learned thus far:

Top Image: "Beer" as in, "Give me an Astra." Specific to Hamburg and surrounding areas. Note: Beer in other parts of Germany is often spelled "Beck's."

Middle Image: "Swinger's Sex Club." In a sentence, "Let's go to Zwanglos III tonight honey" (as opposed to Zwanglos I, II, or IV which are also conveniently located in Berlin).

Bottom Image: "Ladies! Ladies! Ladies!" as in "Let's go pay for die Damen tonight." Again, particularly useful in Hamburg.
