It's Canada Day today. I was back in Toronto earlier this year sorting out my visa application amongst other things. I left there when I was a teenager and my geography and knowledge of the city is still very much determined by that time in my life. Back then there was Queen St. Of course Queen St. is still very much alive today and it has spread east and west and I'm sure everyone who lives in Toronto can offer you an opinion on its best gallery, restaurant, bar or shop but when I was 14 there was only one Queen St. It was where we first tasted independence, where we first bumped shoulders with mohawks and Dr.Martens, where we first ate at our own cheap finds, where we discovered real books (Pages!) and where we rode the 24hr streetcar. These images are of places that, as far as I can tell, have always been Queen St.
