In August and September 2016, over 100 women from Asia, Africa and Europe gathered in Berlin, Germany for a women’s football tournament & festival called Home Game. The participants were a mix of activists and players of varying skill level. The tournament was organized by the Berlin based NGO Discover Football which works to empower women and girls to play football around the world.

The photographer followed one team, Bright Utopia, made up of players from Iran and two African nations throughout the tournament – both on and off the field.

Note: the players from the two African nations have asked for their names and their countries not to be identified. They are worried for their safety and releasing the information could “put our lives in danger” (direct quote from one of the players).
